Thoracic Radiofrequency Ablation
Treatment Information
Thoracic Radiofrequency Ablation
Thoracic radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is a minimally invasive procedure used to provide lasting relief for patients suffering from chronic thoracic (mid-back) pain originating from the facet joints. Facet joints can become a source of pain due to conditions like arthritis, injury, or degeneration. During thoracic RFA, a specialized needle is inserted near the medial branches of the nerves that supply the facet joints under fluoroscopic guidance. Radiofrequency energy is then applied to the nerves, creating heat that disrupts their ability to transmit pain signals.
This procedure can provide long-lasting pain relief by effectively blocking the nerve signals responsible for pain. Patients may experience temporary discomfort or soreness at the treatment site, but this typically subsides within a few days. Thoracic RFA is considered a safe and effective treatment option for managing chronic thoracic pain, and it can significantly improve a patient's quality of life.
