Mid Back Pain

Mid Back Pain

Mid back pain, also known as thoracic back pain, can be caused by a variety of factors such as poor posture, muscle strain, injury, or underlying medical conditions. Dr. Singer can create a personalized plan which may include physical therapy, medication, and in some cases, interventional procedures. Remember, early intervention and proper management are key to relieving midback pain and improving your quality of life.

Mid-back Pain Treatments

Mid-back pain often arises from poor posture, muscle strain, or conditions like herniated discs, leading to discomfort between the shoulder blades. This type of pain can be aggravated by activities such as lifting, twisting, or sitting for extended periods. Effective treatment usually involves physical therapy, stretching exercises, and maintaining good posture to alleviate the strain on the muscles and spine.

Transforaminal Epidural Steroid Injection

In a thoracic epidural injection a corticosteroid (anti-inflammatory medication) is injected into the epidural space to reduce inflammation. A local anesthetic (numbing medicine) may also be injected. When it is done from the side where the nerve exists the spine, it is called a transforaminal injection. This technique puts the medication near the source of the inflammation.

Thoracic Medial Branch Block and RFA

A Thoracic Medial Branch Block is a diagnostic procedure where an anesthetic is injected near the medial branch nerves of the thoracic spine to identify the source of pain. If successful, Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) can be performed to provide longer-lasting pain relief by using heat to disrupt the nerve's ability to transmit pain signals.
